The Birds' Tea Party

It's Spring! The magnolia trees have just started blooming and birds are nesting.



There is a nesting pair of cardinals in a tiny tree near our garden.

Went I saw this tutorial about how to make a bird feeder out of a teacup and saucer, I thought that would be a perfect way for Blaze and I to help out the birds.

$1.17 at the hospice resale shop, got us, not only a teacup and saucer, but also a little teapot.



I used strong, waterproof glue to glue down the lid of the teapot and then stuffer the spout with some paper towel and poured glue into it. This is because I only want to use the pot for decorative purposes and I didn't want water getting in and stagnating. I also glued the cup to the saucer.

We didn't follow the directions from the other tutorial, as to how to attach the teacup to a stick. Instead, we made a base for the teapot and the teacup out of a thick wooden dowel and some wood we had left over from other projects.

This gave Blaze a chance to learn how to use the saw from his little tool set. He also got to hammer, which he really enjoys.





Then we glued the teapot and teacup, each to one of the bases. When they were dry, we placed them in among the herbs in the garden and filled the teacup with birdseed formulated for cardinals and songbirds.
