We started our day by watching the movie, The Story of a Patriot at the Visitors Center. It was so cold today, that we were postponing having to spend time outside, as long as possible.
From there we toured Great Hopes plantation, which represented a small, not terribly prosperous, farm with a few slaves. We looked in a couple building, but spent the most time in a slave cabin, warming ourselves with the fire burning in the fire place, after I slid in the mud and ended up wet and dirty.
While we were there, we found a way of putting Blaze's love of pounding things to good use, grinding corn meal:
Then we visited the other end of the social ladder, Governor's Palace.
Guests entering the Palace are greeted by an intimidating show of military strength in the form of swords and guns hanging every where. There are over 500 weapons on display in the house now, as they were in the days when Lord Dunmore was the Governor of Virginia.
