Happy First Day of Autumn !

Photobucket

Autumn Fire

by Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

"Come said the wind to
the leaves one day,
Come o're the meadows
and we will play.
Put on your dresses
scarlet and gold,
For summer is gone
and the days grow cold."
- A Children's Song of the 1880's

Blaze and I found just enough pretty colored leaves to make an Autumn crown, which we took turns wearing, and to make two leaf pictures to hang above our nature table.

  2. The nights have gotten cooler here, but it doesn't really feel like autumn yet. I don't think we could find enough leaves that were changing to make a crown.

  3. It wasn't easy to find colored leaves here, either. We found only one tree with red leaves and most of those were too high for me to reach. DH said the tree was probably dying, not changing with the seasons. Just so you know the kind of dumb extremes I go to for these art projects, I had to park the car on the shoulder of a busy road and stand just a short distance down-wind from a dead raccoon to get 4 red leaves.

  4. Wow... Autumn has truly come to your kingdom. We have had a heat wave here, 105 degree temps, so we still feel far tooooooooo summery! I just love your leaf pictures and as for your crown... you'll have to show us how to make one... it's lovely.
Thank you so much for sharing on Friday's Nature Table.
    Blessings and magic.

  6. Welcome, Autumn! We made leaf creatures last fall, but I would love to borrow your idea and make crowns (as soon as it's cold enough to turn any leaves, that is!)

Thanks for sharing your nature table!
