Blaze has continued to learn about air this week.
He learned that fire needs Oxygen to burn, first from the blacksmith working the forge at the living history museum, and then from the simple experiment of the candle in a jar.
Also as part of our unit about air, we learned that bubbles need to be made out of something sticky in order to remain even a few seconds. We talked about how bubbles blown in a cup of milk last longer than bubbles blown in water and we made a huge batch of bubble soap to play with.
A tub of bubbles:
3/4 cup liquid dish soap
3/4 cup light corn syrup
4 1/2 cups water
Mix all the ingredients together gently, so as not to cause foam.
We also read the book POP!, which, although directed at slightly younger children, did a good job of explaining how bubbles work.
Great lesson! And it looks like a lot of fun, too!
