Around the World in 80 Days

We just got home from seeing a stage adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days and then having dinner at Harry's restaurant.

The play was really fun. The entire cast consists of just 4 men and 1 woman, but they play 39 different characters all together. The theater is small, but it was very well decorated for the play. The simple special effects were very cleverly done, as was the musical score ( which added quite a bit to the comedy of the production).

This show only runs for one more week, but if you are in the Gainesville, FL. area and haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. It's very interactive so it easily keeps the attention of children who may not be accustomed to going to the theater.

Photographs of the play can been seen here:

A playgoer's guide, that can be used with students can be found here (I think this would also be good if students were reading Around the World in 80 Days):

The back of our theater tickets had a coupon for a free appetizer from Harry's (New Orleans style food) , which was why we went there for dinner. The food was very good, but we ordered way too much, and I will probably be having left over fried oyster po-boy sandwich for lunch tomorrow.
