George Washington's Breakfast
I started the morning reading aloud the book, George Washington's Breakfast, a story of a modern boy who wants to know what George Washington ate for breakfast and tirelessly researches until he finds the answer.
It turns out that George Washington was very set in his ways. He had the same breakfast at the same time every day. At 7 a.m. he ate 3 "Indian Hoe Cakes" and drank 3 cups of tea.
So for our breakfast I made cornmeal hoe cakes. This is not exciting cuisine. A hoe cake is simply a patty made of cornmeal, water and salt, and then baked. We served ours with maple syrup to make it more palatable, but we are still not going to make a habit of eating this.
