We have lived in Florida a little over five years now, but this is the first time I have tried growing a winter garden. I grew up near Chicago and never even dreamed of being able to plant a winter garden, and when part of my garden here froze and died in November, I was saddened, but not surprised. I'm just learning what plants will survive the occasional freezing night (green beans will not).
It was such a wonderful surprise for us to return home after being gone for almost two weeks and find a garden full of things ready to harvest.
One of the things that most excited Blaze was harvesting our first little carrots. Baby carrots are Blaze's favorite vegetable and he was so thrilled to dig up a baby carrot with his little spade, wash it off, and eat it with the leaves still attached.
So, harvesting our first carrots is our "orange" thing for this week.

Beautiful! I'm a grownup, and I STILL get crazy excited at carrots coming out of the ground!
