Scenes from Sanibel

Photobucket

Tammy over at laugh, live, learn, love had a great Mother's Day fantasy trip post about all of her readers, who were moms, going off for a week-long getaway to a tropical island. It made me think of our real island vacation, just before school started last August. So, I thought today I would share pictures of our trip to Sanibel Island and Captiva, on Florida's Golf Coast.

Aaaahhhh...what beautiful photos. How long were you there? I bet looking at these photos brings back a lot of good memories.

My very favorite place in the entire world is Monterey, California. I could LIVE on the beaches there. We are in Idaho (of course) with no beaches ANYWHERE around. We've gone to the coast twice in the last 2 years, and I've brought home a tiny ziplock of sand from each beach, and now I have a little collection sitting here by my computer. :)

I love the shell sink and all of the shells you collected. What are your plans for them?

I googled Sanibel really quick to see where it is and saw there's a Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary there. Did you happen to go there while you were on the island?

We were there for 4 days, but we never made it to the wildlife refuge.
Sanibel is really a beautiful place and we didn't really want to come home. It was our end of the summer and first wedding anniversary trip.
I thought we could use the shells for craft projects, but it just hasn't happened yet. I keep forgetting they're there.
Ula and I had started using shells to make a curtain for the little bamboo hut, but you saw what happened to that.

I don't want blame you for wanting to stay. It looks like such a relaxing place. Did you stay in the same hotel as you did for your aniversary?

Also, who made the sand pyramid? I'm impressed with the perfection of it, and I'm amazed it turned out so crisp and clean!

I wish I could take credit for the sand pyramid, but actually I found it while taking an early morning walk alone on the beach. I'm so glad I took the picture, because when I took my family back later to see it, it was gone.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear explaining that. That was our first anniversary. Dh is my second husband and we have only been married a year and 9 months.
We've been together for several years, but my ex-husband is the biological father of all of my children.

I'll be in Sanibel in July --my MIL lives there. We used to go to the Bubble Room every year--I have photos of both girls as babies in the hippo's mouth. We don't go anymore though as there are other spots a like a bit more!
