Aesop's Fables Projects

I'm really not very good at sticking to a curriculum. Here we are at the beginning of the school year, and I am already veering off of the pre-printed curriculum I purchased. We started out using the Animal Legends book that came with the Christopherus materials, but after reading a couple of the Aesop's Fables, I decided I wanted to do a whole unit just on Aesop. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Animal Legends book and we will be reading the other stories in it later. Right now, though, I'm just going to focus on the ones by Aesop, and since there are a limited number of those in the Christopherus book, we will also be using The Aesop for Children.

So far, we have covered three stories, spending three days with each one. The first day, I just read the story, but we didn't discuss it. That way, Blaze could think about it on his own (the moral was never revealed). The second and third days we did activities with the characters after re-reading the story.

The first story we read was "The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse".

I made a town mouse wash cloth/puppet for Blaze to play with.

Next was "The Tortoise and The Hare".

I really like the way this old movie of "The Tortoise and The Hare" uses real animals to act out the fable.

Blaze's accompanying art project:

And finally "The Lion and The Mouse"

Blaze used the modeling beeswax to sculpt a lion and mouse.

We also learned a little bit about who Aesop was.
