Read Like a Pirate

I shall set the mood for a week of piracy with some good pirate book recommendations.

We love the sequel to How I Became a Pirate - Pirates Don't Change Diapers! We also love Matt McElligott's picture books about Backbeard the Pirate.

A favorite book for slightly older kids (my 2 1/2 year old doesn't enjoy it but my 7 year old does) is the Barefoot Book of Pirates, which in most editions comes with an audio cd.

Non-fiction adult books about pirates that are good are. Howard Pyle's book of pirates, though its historical accuracy is questionable it is a fun read with very famous illustrations. Another good one is Captain Johnson's General History of Pirates. My favorite at the moment though is The Buccaneers of America is an amazing book because it was written by someone who was actually there. A rare first hand account of how pirates really lived.
