Airship Cake

I may have a bit of an obsessive personality. I seem to have zeppelins on the brain a lot recently, but since DH bought me the hot air balloon muffin pan, it would have been a shame not to use it. I started last night by making cupcakes.

Then today I made DH's birthday cake, using one of the zeppelin shaped cupcakes as a decorative feature on the cake.

This was the first time I had ever used fondant to decorate a cake. I've been watching some of those cake decorating contests on the Food Channel and that's what they always use, so I wanted to try it. It was fun and easy to work with, but it doesn't feel like a food. It feels like soft plasticine "clay". Blaze yelled at me from the next room that his cake had rubber on it, and then a few seconds later he yelled, "I ate it!"
